This Monday we had a lecture of landscape architecture from Zhao Bing. He is the professor of the Nanjing Forestry University and a landscape architect.
All the students from GCA came to the lecture hall to listen to the lecture. We were all very excited because we could see an expert on landscape architecture. He is outstanding on his career. He used PPT to give us the speech and he was very humorous.
He first asked us we know how much about the landscape gardens. All the students felt embarrassed because we know nothing about that. He said we knew that we don't have some profession knowledge about the landscape gardens. He wanted to give us a good lesson.
He taught us mainly about the landscape gardens of Suzhou. The Lingering Garden was listed from the first as cultural relics of national importance in 1961. With an area of 2
3,310 square meters, it is celebrated for its artistic way of dealing with the spaces between various kinds of architectural form. Buildings make up one third of the total area of the garden, the hall of which being the most remarkable in Suzhou. The garden is separated into the middle, eastern, northern and western parts. The ancestral temple and the house lie to the south of the garden.
With a history of more than 2,500 years, the ancient city of Suzhou, boasting splendid scenery, rich cultural heritage and abundant agricultural products, is situated in the Lower Yangtze basin by the side of lake tai. Ever since the founding of Suzhou as the capital of the Wu Kingdom in 514 B.C., it has been the political, economic and cultural center of the region. As a place famed for its well-known scholars, successful merchants, great architects and distinguished artists, Suzhou provides favorable conditions for the creation and development of classical gardens.

He also said that there are two main kinds of Chinese landscape garden .One of them is the royal garden; it is a place for the Emperor to have a rest and enjoy himself. The other is the private garden. It belongs to the wealthy people and they enjoyed themselves there.
It was a great experience for me to learn about the art of the landscape garden.I love landscape gardens.I love a kind of simple but meaningful live.If I can sleep in the garden for one night, talk about our lives with my friends. That would be a wonderful time to enjoy. Professor Zhao is very eruditely and he made us understand him very well.I love the lecture.
